Partially Enclosed Lifeboats
Partially Enclosed Lifeboats are designed for moderate climate, coastal & sheltered sea areas, primarily fitted on cruise ships, short-sea ferries and coastal passenger vessels, suitable for short-term survival.

Partially Enclosed Lifeboats, complying with the requirements of SOLAS Chapter III and the IMO LSA Code, are permitted to be recovered, hoisted and re-stowed onboard vessels by gravity luffing arm davit systems.
Description
Introduction:
IMO rules stipulate partially enclosed lifeboats shall feature rigid covers covering ≥20% of the bow and stern, foldable full-enclosure weatherproof canopies, automatic self-bailing functionality, and access doors at the bow, stern and both lateral sides.

- Regulations 21, 31 and 34, Chapter III of International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, as Amended
- Chapter IV of MSC.48(66) International Life-saving Appliance Code, as amended by MSC.218(82), MSC.272(85), MSC.320(89), MSC.459(101) and MSC.485(103)
- Part 1 of MSC.81(70) Revised Recommendation on Testing of Life-saving Appliance, as amended by MSC.226(82), MSC.274(85), MSC.321(89), MSC.323(89) and MSC.488(103)

in accordance with recommendation on testing of Lifesaving Appliances, IMO Res. MSC.81(70) part 1, as amended by IMO Res. MSC.226(82), IMO Res. MSC.274(85), IMO Res. MSC.321(89), IMO Res. MSC.323(89), IMO MSC.1/Circ. 1006 and IMO Res. MSC.481(102) – Type II.
