Gangway safety nets should be installed where a person might fall from the means of embarkation or between the ship and the quayside. For security of life and property, all mesh ropes are securely knitted in position.
As per SOLAS Regulation II-1/3-9 and IMO MSC.1/Circ.1331, a gangway safety net must be rigged beneath gangways and accommodation ladders to prevent falls into the water or onto the quayside. Gangway safety nets are mandatory wherever a person could fall between the ship and the shore, usually extending the full length and width of the access area.
