According to ISO 799, wooden steps shall not be treated or coated with paint, varnish or other coatings, which either change the friction coefficient or hide the natural grain.
Wooden steps shall be ISO 799 and SOLAS-compliant steps with dimension roughly 525 × 115 × 28 mm, no coated and knot-free. And all steps must be dried, as excess moisture causes to rot, swell, and lose structural integrity, directly violating SOLAS and IMO safety regulations.
Replacement steps are also available to ensure easily replaced on board the vessel without needing to completely unstring the entire ladder.
