Thimble

Thimble is a critical marine-grade metal reinforcement loop fitted via splicing at the top ends of a pilot ladder and embarkation ladder’s side ropes.

  • Compliant to ISO 799 and ISO 5489
  • Stainless steels or hot dip galvanized iron
  • Corrosion-resistant
  • Available with 22mm for sipe ropes
  • Available with 28mm for man ropes

According ISO 799 and ISO 5489, each ferrous metal part, which is not stainless steel, shall be coated in accordance with ISO 1461, and each stainless steel part shall be of a marine grade alloy with a corrosion resistance at least equal to grade “4401-316-00I” in ISO 15510.

Description

Introduction:

Conforming to ISO 799‑1:2019 and ISO 5489, the thimble prevents critical side rope failure at deck attachment points. As a robust teardrop-shaped protective fitting, it mitigates excessive mechanical abrasion and chafing damage to the ladder’s side ropes, as well as man ropes.

Intended for:

Manufacture and repair Pilot ladder, embarkation ladder and jacob’s ladder

Comply with:

ISO 15510:2014, Stainless steels — Chemical composition
ISO 1461, Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles — Specifications and test methods
